Corona: “Carlos Corberán transmits energy, hunger and enthusiasm”
Statementsby the Valencia CF sporting director at the presentation of Carlos Corberán asValencia CF coach
As finalists in this year's Copa del Rey and potential participants in the 2019 Spanish Supercopa, Valencia CF are intrigued by the announcement of a proposal to change the format for both competitions. VCF Director General Mateu Alemany discussed the matter on Tuesday with the media.
"I am surprised, because I cannot understand how the RFEF can entertain the idea of changing competitions in which professional teams play without consulting LaLiga. In the case of the Supercopa, we are directly affected, Valencia CF are set to take part in it if we win the Copa del Rey or if FC Barcelona win LaLiga. I am surprised that someone would change this format in April, and even more so that they would do so without consulting anybody."
"In this regard we are directly affected and Valencia CF will defend our interests. There is a general meeting for LaLiga before that of the RFEF, and we will have a lot to say there."
"Regarding the Copa del Rey, now they want it to be played over a single game. I don't know if it will be better or worse than now, but we would have to talk about it -or are we going to impose changes that affect professional football without consulting professional football clubs?"
"In terms of the Supercopa, our lawyers will be very attentive. The change in format, made in April, is to go from playing one opponent to having several sides involved. We don't like this, especially when we haven't been consulted or had the reasons why explained to us, or been told of the sporting and economic effects. Valencia CF will defend our interests on all fronts, and will not allow situations that hinder the club from the RFEF or other areas."
"We are open to dialogue (...). We hope to receive a call, either to Valencia CF directly or to LaLiga, to discuss this matter."
